My Beef With the Highlander Cartoon and other Tales

 

Good Afternoon Bat-fans. It's been a hot minute over on this blog. A fuller update on what I've been up to will be dropping shortly. However, I've been so busy I was remiss to mention that my guest appearance on the Batminute Beyond podcast had dropped back in August. 

Please accept my apologies and this link, which involves me discussing my history with the Highlander cartoon, anime and discussing action figures with fellow guest Neil Rickatson.

It's been a hot (bat) minute since my last podcast appearance, so I am delighted to announce that I have once again joined the Batminute boys as guest of honour on their latest episode on Mask of the Phantasm, a film I hadn't seen in years and found surprising to experience again.

In the episode we discuss James Bond minute and the history of the jet pack in popular culture, Mark Hamill's strange relationship with independent comics and a discussion of what makes a 'so bad it's good' vanity project.

Always a pleasure, never a chore to join Niall and Jon in taking 60 seconds of a film and going down so many rabbit holes we end up with tunnel vision.

Being sort of out for the count with the wrist situation at present meant I completely forgot to post an update here about the recent Bat Minute Podcast I guested on.

Also a note on this. I talk a bit about Grant Morrison in this podcast and neglected to use the pronouns they/them that they go by. Entirely a mistake on my part and not intended as disrespect towards a comics writer that I obviously admire. Just be aware of that before going in.

So with that in mind take this as a double apology, for being both late in an announcement and accidental incorrect pronoun usage. It won't happen again.

Ultimately then, I present to you all, Minute 60 where I argue that a story about Superman dating Batman will happen within our lifetime.

Jack Minute Returns

Life has been completely been putting me through the ringer recently. I totalled my car on the icy roads last week, and as such, had a bunch of stuff to see to before visiting Glasgow, so I didn't have time to get an update ready to say my Batminute Returns Podcasts had aired.

With that in mind then, here it is. Last weeks three episodes, with yours truly as the guest. I think I got a better hang of this podcast thing this time around, and we have a good chat about all sorts of stuff, from Keaton's Bat-Gurn to thoughts on a Catwoman reboot.

As ever, Niall and Jon were paragons of professionalism, and I had a blast returning to the mic.

Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds!

The day has finally come. (Or days, if you count Monday, Wednesday and Friday) It gives me great pleasure to present to you all my three appearances on the wonderful BatMinute '89 podcast.

For those of you who don't know, the purpose of BatMinute '89 is to take a look at Tim Burton's 1989 film Batman, and spend each episode of the podcast talking about a single minute of the film. I had the honour of being invited to talk about minutes 40 to 42 (That's going from Vikki Vale leaving Wayne Manor to the Joker's coup against Grissom's mob, if you're familiar with the film.)

Niall and Jon do a great job on the podcast, and while it took me a bit to get in to the swing of things, I really enjoyed it, and it was good to get the chance to chat a bit about the fundamentals of Batman as a character in podcast 41.

The three shows are linked below, but the whole series is worth a listen. I look forward to the guy's work in the future and should they decide to cover Batman Returns and beyond, I'd jump at the chance to come back on the show.
