Announcing Scoundrels, Scumbags and Schemers

It's finally here. The print anthology collecting all the comics I've collaborated on over the last couple of years, along with bonus concept art and behind the scenes stuff, is something you can now hold in your hands.

The whole package has been completed with some outstanding cover art from Flops, and it's so cool to see this motley crew of characters all huddle up into the same cover. As you can see, there's definitely a call back to the days of classic 2000ad and old dime store novels in it's production, and I'm really pleased how it's come out.

The comic contains One Hell of A Night, Precious Resources, Bigger Guns, A Perfect World and Damned Another Day. All tails of horror and suspense with ironic twists at the end. A big thanks to all the artists I worked with on this comic, and with it arriving just in time for Harrogate Thought Bubble, I'm hoping I'll be bringing them to a whole new audience.

Announcing Sea of Spheres - Glory, Gunpowder and Gold

You all knew it was coming when I announced my previous Sea of Spheres book, but it's finally official. The second collection of short stories from my skypunk Sea of Spheres setting, rendered unmistakably through amazing illustrations from Windlass, is out now.

The book contains the three stories The Right to Know, The Silent Approach and Choose Your Weapons wisely. As with the previous book, it'll be a convention exclusive for now, but online availability, as well as getting it in the hands of some retailers is something I'll be exploring further down the line.

I will be at Harrogate Thought Bubble THIS WEEKEND, and if you buy both volumes you get them at a discounted price. See you there!

Announcing Sea of Spheres - Conspiracy, Conflict and Conscience

I've been hinting at it here and there for a long time and now I'm finally happy to announce that a print edition of my Sea of Spheres series, with artwork by the ever amazing Windlass, is finally seeing print.

Conspiracy, Conflict and Conscience collects the first three stories in the series. No Route to Guide You, A Question of Conscience and Matter of State, along with the short comic Night Shift. The book includes all of the artwork Windlass produced for those stories, in high detail and full colour.

For now the print editions will be purely for sale at conventions and possibly a couple of local retailers, but depending on interest the possibility of online purchasing may materialise further down the line. A second volume, collecting the other three stories, will also be going into production very soon.

It's a thrill to finally hold this thing in my hand, remastered and fully tightened up. I can't wait to introduce a wider audience to Windlass' art. As mentioned previously, I'll be at the BFS Fantasycon in Chester this coming weekend and Thought Bubble in Harrogate in November, so if you're in the area and want a copy that is hot off the press, you can find me right there, ready to shove it in your face.

Damned Another Day

Action! Adventure! Intrigue! Romance!? If you like the look of those explanation points flying towards you at 100 miles per hour, then you're going to be in just the right mood for Damned Another day, a brand new 4 page comic written by me and with incredible art by Brian McCray.

Secret agent James Nicea comes face to face at the card table with the dastardly Angelo De Faust, whose underworld activities are damning souls to Hell's eternal war. Key to overturning this villain's schemes are his sultry second in command Miss Carmilita Roland, but are James' charms enough to win her over?

This is a story that I've had in my head for a long time and went through various iterations, and while I knew Brian was going to be a good fit for the art, I was utterly astounded with how much he threw into bringing this world to life. The entire strip just bleeds 60s cool, and putting the extra details on the tarot cards was above and beyond the call of duty. Be sure to check out more of his work, which is as diverse as it is surprising. Be sure to check out more of his work, which is as diverse as it is surprising.

A Perfect World

We may be winding down the last few months of 2024 but it's always a good time for unsettling stories of existential dread. I'm delighted to bring you this tale with phenomenally suspenseful art by Lexa.

A Perfect World tells the story of Leon, a cynical loner with a distaste for classic tales of good vs evil. Leon's humble life begins to crumble as he starts to discover that the fantastical might not be as fictional as he believes.

I can't say enough good things about Lexa's art on this one, who absolutely knocked it out of the park. I love the dreamlike quality they brought to the story, which is exactly the kind of mood I wanted to bring across in the script.

I highly recommend you check out their other work, which you can find all of the links to here.

Bigger Guns

A brand new tale is here to grace your eyeballs, with art by the fantastic Turbomiracle and written by yours truly. Bigger Guns is a story of infernal action and cultural change, where shifting politics of the 1960s didn't just affect the earthly realms, but those beneath them too.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Turbormiracle who did an incredible job with rendering such detailed scenes like the club interior and the minute to minute action. I've admired their work for a long time, and it's been great to see them illustrate something I've written.

Here's to moving on!

Precious Resources

Hello folks. It's a fine day to bring you some exciting new material, and this time it's a short, humorous comic about a bunch of gnomes digging far deeper than they ever should have.

Art is by the ever fantastic Kristina Amuan, who previously worked on my Warhammer 40k comic A Conspiracy of Riches. Kristina is absolutely phenomenal at drawing gnomes, so I knew she was the ideal choice for this project, and she didn't disappoint.

Once again, a massive thanks to Kristina for her work on this, which is always a delight to see. If you want to see more of her work and support her, you can find all the details on her website here.

One Hell of a Night

Hello all. It's a great day for bringing you some brand new material that's been in the pipeline. While the story is maybe more suited to spooky season, treat this as an early Christmas present.

With phenomenal art by Sam W, here is a tale of crime, sex and the evil that lurks within the heart of us all... and maybe beyond.

One Hell of a Night

And there you have it. I think Sam did an incredible job on this one, bringing so many extra elements to the story that my script didn't even hint at, but it's all the better for it.

Announcing An Illustrated Guide to Drinking Beer

After two years of living with the pandemic, folks are finally starting to (hopefully safely) venture back out into the world of British pubs. What better time then, for me to launch my recently finished comic book, An Illustrated Guide to Drinking Beer.

Beer, ale, stout, porter, bitter, pilsner, mild. To an outsider, the world of ales must appear more complex than a chemistry formula.

In this handy guide, the world of beer will be explained simply and easily, and provide a starting point for people of all tastes, as well as a deeper exploration for those already in the know.

Written after several years of frustration when it comes to the real ale community trying to promote itself, I've put together what I feel is a definitive take on how to get into ales when you're completely clueless, plus a little extra fun stuff for seasoned drinkers.

The comic is available for purchase digitally on my Gumroad page here.

Physical copies will always be sold at conventions, the most recent of which will be the West Coast Minicon on July 23rd. I'll also be getting in touch with distributors in the coming months, hoping to get the book into pubs, brewery stores and comic shops.

In about a month's time I'll be releasing an abridged version of the comic as a taster and mini-introduction for the whole experience.

Jack's February Update

Thought it would be a good time to check in with you all in regards to what's going on right now and what's on it's way.

- In case you missed it, The Whitehaven Siege is now available in a digital edition. I'm still looking for hard copy retailers to expand the issue's reach itself, but if you're further afield, consider checking it out here
- Likewise, my Warhammer 40'000 story, The Trials of Sister Roslyn, has now concluded. You can read the whole thing in it's entirety now, so if you want to take a look, you can start here.
- I'll be attending Carlisle Megacon on the 21st March, where as per usual I'll be selling copies of my books, prints and comics, and giving away free print versions of For The Max. Hope to see you there.
- Starting Monday 2nd March, I'll be a returning guest for the Bat Minute Podcast. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you folks think.

And that's about all for now. Recurring updates will be slower on the ground going forward. I'm still looking for a publisher to pick up Memoirs of the Fated, and I have a few ideas of what I want to start working on from here. One small project may be a Doctor Who Zine, which you can see test art for below. So watch this space if something like that might interest you.

In the meantime, you can keep up to date on my ramblings by following my Twitter, Tumblr or Deviantart.

Jack's December Update

Lots of things to get through this month so I'll be as snappy as possible.

- My interview with The Whitehaven Guide appears in this month's December/January issue. It was a fun little thing to do and I hope it brings The Whitehaven Siege to the attention of a wider audience.

- Speaking of The Whitehaven Siege, my comic about John Paul Jones' attack on Whitehaven Harbor. More retail avenues are opening up (you can currently find a couple of copies as far as Dead Head Comics in Edinburgh) so I'll soon be looking into getting a second print run sorted. If you have trouble getting a copy over the Christmas period worry not, there should be fresh batches in early January

- On top of that, I've been toying with the idea of getting a digital version available to buy online for those who are further afield. I'd be interested to hear what folks think of that and if it's worth doing.

And it's not just The Whitehaven Siege that there's news on:

- I'll be attending the York Unlimited Winter Convention at York Race Course on Sunday 9th February, and Carlisle Megacon at Richard Rose Central Academy on Saturday 21st March. As ever I'll be selling copies of The Whitehaven Siege, Foul Cheeses and Space Diseases, Tales of the Modern Realms a selection of prints and what copies of Memoirs of the Fated I still have left. Plus I hope to have some new comic projects to show while I'm there.

- One of these comic projects is a short comic called FOR THE MAX, and I hope to have it done and online before Christmas, but It might drop mid January. Either way I plan on getting some printed editions to hand out free at conventions to give people an idea of the kind of comics I do.

- Memoirs of the Fated is still without a publisher, as I've been busy focusing on other projects. Still, I hope as time frees up in the new year I'll have some luck getting the series a new home.

- My Warhammer 40'000 fanfic, The Trials of Sister Roslyn is still sticking to it's update schedule, and people appear to like it, which is good. As per usual you can catch a new chapter every Sunday, and keep an eye out for the Emperor's Day special on Sunday 22nd December.

That's about all I have to say for now. I have so many other projects that I'm working on that I'd love to talk about but it's too soon to say how many will see fruition. For now let me just say you can find more of my artwork on my Deviantart or Art Tumblr, or if it's just ramblings you're after you can follow me on my general Tumblr or over on Twitter.

Thanks for reading, and here's hoping we've got a good new year to look forward to.

Announcing Foul Cheeses and Space Diseases

Hey folks, it's time for me to announce that I have a new self-published book in print. Foul Cheeses and Space Diseases collects five years worth of short stories that I've written for a variety of projects, from competitions to zines, all in one handy volume, and I'm excited to get it out into the world.

The stories range from Murder Mysteries to Supernatural Horror to Science Fiction and Comedy, all with accompanying illustrations. Most of the stories are ones I have released for free on my blog over the years, but they are the remastered and definitive editions of these stories. The collection also includes some previously unreleased short stories and behind the scenes notes on where many of the ideas came from.

The link to get them through amazon is listed below. On top of that I'll also make sure to have copies at future conventions along with Tales of the Modern Realms and Memoirs of the Fated.

That's all for now, hope you check out the links if you're interested and thanks for reading!

Announcing The Whitehaven Siege or The Many Tales of John Paul Jones' Attack On Whitehaven Harbor

So, it is with a great deal of pride and a little relief that I can finally announce that The Whitehaven Siege, my first self published comic book, is finally available to the world. It's a 24 page comic that covers one of Whitehaven's most notorious tales, that of the attack during the American War of Independence.

Hero, Pirate, Idealist, Criminal, Founder, Murderer, Revolutionary, Opportunist.

The stories about American naval founder John Paul Jones are as numerous as they are contradictory. None more so than the only US attack on British soil.

This comic takes a mirthful look at the tales told of that fateful night and tries to dissect the mythology behind the man.

The comic, being a very niche and local history, will only be on sale in Whitehaven itself to begin with. Most notably at The Beacon and The Rum Story. I'll of course be selling copies when I attend conventions, the most recent one will be next weekend at Carlisle Megacon. After that I'll be looking in to getting the comic stocked in comic shops around the border regions of Scotland and England.

If the comic proves popular, I'll then start looking to get copies available online further down the line.

Announcing In Service to the New Regime

Carnack Coudland is back. As I'd hinted at previously, a fourth story in my Memoirs of the Fated series is just around the corner. As ever, though, it's written to be completely self contained and accessible to new readers.

In Service to the New Regime is a bit of a departure for the series, which was pretty heavily in the Fantasy genre. This time around Carnack returns as the protagonist, but in a Sci-fi Fantasy setting that includes elements of Noir and Cyberpunk.

Cover art is once again by the wonderful V. Rios, whose work never fails to surprise me.

As King of Andavia, Carnack Cousland has become a responsible leader in a wider universe, but once he was a wild card, a killer for hire in the employ of President Hartley's New Regime. When an ancient oath threatens the delicate peace between the worlds of magic and technology, Carnack must join forces with a hustler, a cat-girl and two cyberpunks in order to end a universe spanning feud caused...

In Service to the New Regime is set to be released as an Ebook on July 16, with (I hope) a print version as part of the Volume 2 anthology some time next year. You can pre-order it now, over at Less Than Three's website or grab it on Amazon. Once release day comes around I'll update the liks accordingly.

Jack Minute Returns

Life has been completely been putting me through the ringer recently. I totalled my car on the icy roads last week, and as such, had a bunch of stuff to see to before visiting Glasgow, so I didn't have time to get an update ready to say my Batminute Returns Podcasts had aired.

With that in mind then, here it is. Last weeks three episodes, with yours truly as the guest. I think I got a better hang of this podcast thing this time around, and we have a good chat about all sorts of stuff, from Keaton's Bat-Gurn to thoughts on a Catwoman reboot.

As ever, Niall and Jon were paragons of professionalism, and I had a blast returning to the mic.

The links to all three shows are below.

You can also find them on iTunes if that's your jam.

That's all for now Batfans. Once again, stay tuned for more short stories, columns and comics, same Jack Blog, different Jack Post.

A Late Announcement for Memoirs of the Fated

You might recall that I’d mentioned in the last couple of updates that a print edition collecting all of my Ebooks would be on its way shortly.  Well, it actually turns out that the print edition, Memoirs of the Fated, has been available for a while. Because of all the chaos going on in my life since August (Computer problems, losing my job, family issues etc) I’d completely missed the memo from Less Than Three that it was out.

You’re going to have to accept my apologies on that.

So then, let me now take this opportunity to announce that Memoir of the Fated is out and in print. It collects three short stories The Reminiscence of Good King Carnack, The Scars of Jocasta Lacroix and The Reflections of Zantir Xanderfell.

All three stories are predominantly traditional fantasy, albeit from a less heroic perspective with mild sci-fi elements in the background. The series specifically uses the framing device of a character recalling an adventure from their younger days, and often explores how their personal relationships have developed over that time.

The series is still ongoing, with a forth story starring Carnack planned for 2019. However, all stories are completely self-contained, and written in such a way that you can read them in any order.
I’m immensely proud of my work on the series, and hope the print version will help it get to a wider audience.

You can find the links to purchase the book below:

Or just ask for Jack Harvey Memoir of the Fated at your book purchasing place of choice.

Thanks for reading.

Announcing The Reflections of Zantir Xanderfell

Folks, I've been a little busy this year with projects, problems and travel, so it's taken me a while to get round to doing this update, but it's finally here, the third in my fantasy series, heretofore to be known as 'Memoirs of the Fated', is on it's way.

It's time to announce, The Reflections of Zantir Xanderfell.

As Lord Protector of Icon, Zantir bears heavy responsibilities, but she's come a long way from her time as a ruthless mercenary.

But when an old acquaintance reappears, she learns the past can never truly be escaped, redemption is not so easily bought, nor love so easily courted...

Following on from The Reminiscence of Good King Carnack and The Scars of Jocasta Lacroix, this story introduces a new character in Zantir Xanderfell and once again takes a look at Carnack from a fresh perspective.

As ever, the story itself is self contained, so you're not missing anything if you haven't read the others. It's heavily influenced by heist stories and has a few more hints towards extra-dimensional elements going on behind the scenes.

The cover is by the insanely talented V Rios who really ran with the design of Zantir's costume on the cover, and I really love her take on the character.

All that's left to say is another big thanks to Less Thank Three for publishing my crazy worlds, and if you're all interested, watch this space for more big new coming soon.

Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds!

The day has finally come. (Or days, if you count Monday, Wednesday and Friday) It gives me great pleasure to present to you all my three appearances on the wonderful BatMinute '89 podcast.

For those of you who don't know, the purpose of BatMinute '89 is to take a look at Tim Burton's 1989 film Batman, and spend each episode of the podcast talking about a single minute of the film. I had the honour of being invited to talk about minutes 40 to 42 (That's going from Vikki Vale leaving Wayne Manor to the Joker's coup against Grissom's mob, if you're familiar with the film.)

Niall and Jon do a great job on the podcast, and while it took me a bit to get in to the swing of things, I really enjoyed it, and it was good to get the chance to chat a bit about the fundamentals of Batman as a character in podcast 41.

The three shows are linked below, but the whole series is worth a listen. I look forward to the guy's work in the future and should they decide to cover Batman Returns and beyond, I'd jump at the chance to come back on the show.

Minute 40: A Bungling Butler and a Laughing Lounge Lizard

You can also find them on iTunes if that's your jam.

That's all for now Batfans. Stay tuned for more short stories, columns and comics, same Jack Blog, different Jack Post.

Announcing The Scars of Jocasta Lacroix

Hey folks! If you've been following my updates recently you'll have notice me mention that a new Ebook from Less Than Three would be coming soon. Well, the time for talking in hushed tones is over. It's time to announce...

After years of serving as a ranger across untold worlds and battlefields, Jocasta Lacroix is no stranger to scars, and her wife Katie knows the story of all but one. On their anniversary, Jocasta tells the story of her time as bodyguard and lover of Lady Gail Norringham, where she was drawn into a web of secrets and betrayal that led to her first encounter with notorious mercenary Carnack Cousland.

The Scars of Jocasta Lacroix is a follow up to The Reminiscence of Good King Carnack, though it's events actually take place before that story, so in essense you can read them in either order, so don't worry if you haven't read my last Ebook.

The story follows Jocasta, who was a minor character in Reminiscence and Scars seeks to explain how she and Carnack first met and just what their deal is. I've been wanting to write a full story with Jocasta for a long time, and I'm thrilled to finally see it out there.

Speaking of being thrilled, Meg Daunting returns to provide the cover artwork and I couldn't be happier with the finished piece.

I hope you all enjoy what I've come out with, and if you do, I can assure you that we'll be seeing more from Carnack and Jocasta's world in the future.

The Scars of Jocasta Lacroix will be available on June 7th for $1.99, and you can pre-order it here right now.

And if you haven't checked out The Reminiscence of Good King Carnack yet, you can also buy that here.

And while you're there, once again feel free to take a look at the great work other authors have got going on. You still can't go wrong.

Thanks for reading!
